About Me
I use this blog as my spot to publicly ponder happenings in the Digital Out-of-Home space, specifically targeted at the advertising, content, media and use of the medium.
I’ve got to start with a disclaimer that I do own a company that sells Digital Out of Home media to brands and media agencies across North America but I do my best to keep my corporate life out of my personal rants here. My interest in having this blog is to try and get the understanding level up and allow for communication of what works and what doesn’t in the space so everyone involved (brands, buyers, networks, integrators, hardware providers, researchers, etc) wins and the industry makes great strides in helping people use it for their various needs.
In terms of me:
The Formal Version:
Rob Gorrie is the President and Founder of ADCENTRICITY, a North American Digital Signage media service which allows Brands and Buyers a “1 Buy, 1 Bill” solution, allowing strategic media buying decisions and effective media spends. Ultimately, ADCENTRICITY is a value added aggregator making strategic use of the Digital OOH medium easier for agencies and brands. After starting ADCENTRICITY in Toronto in early 2007, Rob moved to New York to expand the company into the US market.
Previously, he was head of Interactive and Interactive Point of Purchase at Gorrie Marketing and President of TheCiti.com, an online advertising/marketing and software development company. Rob attended the University of Western Ontario and is based in New York.
Informally:
Born and raised in Toronto, I spent most of my formative years traveling around Canada on work and schooling only to get the bright idea, after University, of starting a web development and marketing shop at the start of the dot com boom. After surviving the bust and getting very involved with Telco, Banking, CPG, Travel and a number of other industries, I decided to turn my attention to Digital Signage (both merchandising and advertising versions) in cooperation with the family business, Gorrie Marketing, which is in in-store merchandising and Point-of-Purchase displays.
That led very quickly to getting to know a number of the early pioneers in the Digital Signage space, whom I learned a ton from. Fresh with my new found knowledge and having seen the rise of advertising online, I decided to combine my in-store knowledge, software knowledge, advertising/creative knowledge and Digital Signage knowledge into ADCENTRICITY to help Brands and Media Buyers make use of the newest up and coming new medium – Digital OOH.
The real deal? I like starting things. Team building, Project Building, Company building, Concept Building…you name it. Most of my time has, to date, been spent on really bleeding edge or complex projects that actually DO something for my clients AND their customers. If I can learn to make a career out of this “start and eject” model, that’d be my utopia….especially since working for others hasn’t worked so well for me in the past. ![]()
