Apparently this week has seen a ton of new screen innovations that will really start to affect our business in about 3-5 years as production becomes feasible and costs come down.

Sharp, Epson & Hitchi all have some VERY interesting developments in the screen world…

Sharp
Engadget reports that Sharp has developed what they are saying is the world’s thinnest 2.2″ LCD.
SharpAs this technology grows and matures, we’ll start to see larger versions that can be used in Merchandisers and eventually even “wallet screens” which will allow for streaming advertising into wallet billboards (hey, all the advertisers are trying to get into your wallet anyway right?  What better place to advertise every time someone opens there billfold :) )

Engadget also has reported on a new Touch Screen tech by Epson in 3″ and 7″ models
EpsonVery cool tech for merchandising, kiosk and other “micro” environments

Lastly Hitachi, according to engadget, apparently has rolled out a 32″ and 42″ LCD that is only 3.5cm (1.4 inches).
HitachiWhat I found cool about this was that it comes with a LAN connection and optional UWB (Ultra Wide Band - e.g. the wireless stuff that goes through walls) wireless connection that operates up to 9 meters (30 feet)…not sure if that’s for wireless vid signal delivery or networking.

Either way…apparently lots happening in the hardware side of the business!
